John Ortberg will be one of the featured speakers at the Willow Creek Association’s 2007 Leadership Summit. He is a highly acclaimed writer and speaker and is the senior pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park, California. He is the best-selling author of many books including, The Life You've Always Wanted, God is Closer than You Think, Everybody's Normal 'til You Get to Know Them, and the August 2007 release, When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box. He served as a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church from 1994 to 2003. He is known for his ability to craft messages reflecting the highest levels of theological and intellectual thought, while remaining understandable and applicable to listeners at all stages of their spiritual journey.

Dec. 24, 2005, at 9pm, my church kicked off our very first multi-site campus. We nearly killed ourselves preparing for this day. We optimistically and genuinely looked forward to a packed house in Doral, FL. 10 people showed. But Troy talked about God in the sense that He "repels" into our lives with a rope to rescue us & had a rope drop from the ceiling. For the salvation invitation, we extended a rope across the entire front of the stage. 2 people came fwd. to hold onto "the rope that JEsus repeled for them." My husband's mom was one of the two. She is going to heaven today because of a simple Gospel parable from that night. I'll never forget the power of parable & that Jesus gave us full reign to teach this way.

Heather - this sounded awesome! Of course not the fact that only 10 people showed up but the whole illustration & the fact that 2 people accepted the invitation and now know Christ! God is good! And thank God for pastors and people like you and your team who work to make the message of Christ real and something they can 'hang on to!'
